Comparison

Fixty vs Tekmetric

Tekmetric is auto repair software rather than a home services tool, and its own FAQ names mobile mechanics among the businesses it supports. That makes this the comparison where the vocabulary matters more than the feature list.

Start with the part that is inconvenient for Fixty. Tekmetric’s estimate FAQ answers the question directly and says they support mobile mechanics alongside single shop businesses and franchises. It is their sentence, it is quoted in the table with its URL, and no honest comparison page can start anywhere else.

It also knows what a repair order is. Half the tools in this comparison are home services products where a car is an unusual kind of address. Tekmetric is not one of them.

What is left is the shape of the thing. Read enough of their site and the same room keeps appearing: bays, a front counter, a shop calendar, a board that splits one job across named technicians, tire racks. None of that is a criticism of Tekmetric. It is a description of the business it was drawn for, and whether it is your business is the actual question.

Where a cell says we could not confirm something, that means exactly that: we did not find it, which is not the same as it not existing.

When Tekmetric is the better choice

  • You work out of a building with a crew. Their Job Board moves work order cards through Estimates, Work in Progress and Completed columns, and the Tech Board splits the jobs inside one order across named technicians. Fixty has no equivalent for dividing a job between people.
  • You stock parts. Inventory management is included on every Tekmetric plan rather than sold as an upgrade.
  • You sell tires. Tire Suite covers tire inventory and sales inside the platform, which is an entire product line Fixty does not have.
  • Your headcount is growing. Tekmetric puts every mechanic, technician, service writer and manager on the platform, with no cap they publish on how many people you add.

What Fixty does not do

Fixty answers no on 5 of the 16 rows above: route optimization, parts inventory management, multi technician teams, tire and wheel shop tools and accounting sync. They are collected here rather than left scattered through the table, because a row you have to hunt for is a row that was hidden.

Route optimization is the one worth saying out loud. Fixty does not plan the driving order of your day. It was advertised once by mistake and the claim was retracted, and 3 of the 6 products compared across this cluster publish a route optimization feature on their own sites: Jobber, Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan.

We looked for one on Tekmetric's own site and could not confirm it, so that cell lists the pages that were opened rather than guessing at an answer.

Tekmetric says yes to mobile mechanics in its own words

Their estimate page carries a plain question and a plain answer: yes, they support mobile mechanics, listed in the same sentence as single shop businesses and franchises, and they note the product is cloud based so it can be reached from anywhere on any device. That is quoted in the comparison table above with the page and the date it was read.

Take that seriously before reading anything else here. A competitor naming your trade on its own site is stronger evidence than any comparison page, including this one, and if the software fits then the fact that a different company wrote a page about you changes nothing.

What that sentence does not tell you is which parts of the product were built for the way you work, which is what the rest of this page is about.

The vocabulary is a building

Their Job Board moves work order cards through Estimates, Work In Progress and Completed columns, and their Tech Board splits the jobs inside one order across named technicians. Their scheduling product connects online bookings to a shop calendar so bays stay full. Their tire product tracks tire inventory and sales. Every one of those sentences is theirs and quoted in the table.

Their own mobile app page is the clearest statement of the split. They say the app does not include every desktop feature, and that it is designed for service advisors and technicians, from the curb to the bay. That is why the phone workflow row reads Partial: the phone is a companion to the platform rather than the whole of it, and both of the roles they name are roles in a building.

In a van the curb is the bay, the front counter is your phone, and the person splitting the job across technicians is you. Fixty is built for that arrangement and is genuinely worse than Tekmetric at every arrangement with more people in it.

Accounting is a third party product, and the trial is not offered

Tekmetric’s accounting link is provided by a third party company that partners with them, in their own description, which is why that row is recorded as Partial rather than Yes. It is still more than Fixty offers, because Fixty has no accounting integration at all today, first party or otherwise.

On trials their FAQ is unusually direct: they offer free demos but not free trials, and point instead at self guided tours available at any hour. That is a sourced no rather than a cell nobody could fill, and it is quoted in the table.

Fixty Starter at $99/mo runs a 14 day free trial: a card is collected at signup and charged on day 14, and you can cancel before then.

That is the trade. Tekmetric wants to show you the product; Fixty wants you to try it on the next job in your calendar and cancel if it does not hold up.

Questions people ask about Tekmetric

Does Tekmetric work for mobile mechanics?
By their own answer, yes. Their estimate FAQ says they support mobile mechanics alongside single shop businesses and franchises, and notes the product is cloud based and reachable from any device. That sentence is quoted with its URL in the table on this page. What their product assumes is still a shop: a Job Board of work order columns, a Tech Board that splits a job across named technicians, a shop calendar and a tire product.
Does Tekmetric have a free trial?
No, and they say so themselves. Their FAQ says Tekmetric offers free demos but not free trials, and points at self guided tours you can take at any hour instead. That is one of the rare cells in this comparison where a no is quoted rather than inferred. Fixty Starter at $99/mo runs a 14 day free trial: a card is collected at signup and charged on day 14, and you can cancel before then.
What does Fixty do that Tekmetric does not?
It runs the whole job from a phone for one person rather than splitting the work between a desktop platform and a companion app, the customer approves the estimate line by line from a text link and signs it, and photo vehicle inspections are on every plan. What Tekmetric does that Fixty does not: inventory management included on every plan, a tire product, and as many users on the platform as you want.
